DESIGN GENRES

DESIGN PLATFORMS

A platform is a group of technologies that are used as a base upon which other applications, processes or technologies are developed. Design platforms vary between history and genres.

ACCESSORY
Fashion accessories are decorative items that supplement one's garment, such as shoes, costume jewelry, gloves, handbags, hats, belts, scarves, watches, sunglasses, pins, stockings, bow ties, leg warmers, leggings, neckties, suspenders, and tights.
ADORNMENT
Decorative elements on clothing, head-dresses, etc. Can also be part of the garb of a cultural community.
ARCHITECTURE
Is both the process and the product of planning, designing, and constructing buildings and other physical structures.
BOTANICAL
Botanical design relates to plants, and botanical; plural noun: botanicals a substance obtained from a plant and used as an additive, especially in gin or cosmetics.
BEAUTY
Beauty design refers to the beauty industry encompasses cosmetics, perfume, and products for skin and hair care. Beauty salons and spas are considered the service sector of the beauty industry. In addition, some economists include health clubs and cosmetic surgery in their definition of the market.
CULINARY
Culinary design has a long-standing place historically, yet currently a fascination has surfaced to a monumental heights. Some consider breaded fish and digging a hole in mashed potatoes to fill it up with sauce already as the premises of culinary design. What has changed, in recent years, is that designers have made it about their business. Their efforts and aim has become to add a new dimension to a product beyond the taste itself that would stimulate a desire and imagination.
FASHION
Fashion design is the application of design and aesthetics or natural beauty to clothing and accessories.
GARMENT
Everyday clothing mainly refers to workwear.
INDUSTRIAL
Industrial design is the professional service of creating and developing concepts and specifications that optimize the function, value and appearance of products and systems for the mutual benefit of both user and manufacturer.
INTERIOR
Interior design is a multi-faceted profession in which creative and technical solutions are applied within a structure to achieve a built interior environment.
JEWELRY
Jewelry design is personal ornaments, such as necklaces, rings, or bracelets, that are typically made from or contain jewels and precious metal.
LANDSCAPE
Landscape design is an independent profession and a design and art tradition, practiced by landscape designers, combining nature and culture. In contemporary practice, landscape design bridges between landscape architecture and garden design.
LIGHTING
Lighting design or a lighting designer (or LD) works with the director, choreographer, set designer, costume designer, and sound designer to create the lighting, atmosphere, and time of day for the production in response to the text, while keeping in mind issues of visibility, safety, and cost.
PRODUCT
Product design as a verb is the process of creating a new product to be sold by a business to its customers. A very broad concept, it is essentially the efficient and effective generation and development of ideas through a process that leads to new products.
SOUND
Sound design is the process of specifying, acquiring, manipulating or generating audio elements. It is employed in a variety of disciplines including filmmaking, television production, theatre, sound recording and reproduction, live performance, sound art, post-production, radio and video game software development. The sound design in an environment will impact people.
TEXTILE
Textile design is essentially the process of creating designs for woven, knitted or printed fabrics or surface ornamented fabrics. Textile designers are involved with the production of these designs, which are used, sometimes repetitively, in clothing and interior decor items.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation design blends creative design and styling skills with elements of engineering, ergonomics and marketing.
URBAN
Urban design is the process of giving form, shape, and character to groups of buildings, to whole neighborhoods, and the city. It is a framework that orders the elements into a network of streets, squares, and blocks.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

The principles of design describe the ways that designers use the elements of design in a work of art/design. Balance is the distribution of the visual weight of objects, colors, texture, and space. If the design was a scale, these elements should be balanced to make a design feel a certain way.

Philosophy of design is the study of assumptions, foundations, and implications of design. The field is defined by an interest in a set of problems, or an interest in central or foundational concerns in design.
